Protecting your child’s hearing during loud events such as concerts, races, fireworks….even plane rides is really important.
There is no better product to protect your baby’s ears than a pair of Baby Banz Hearing Protector Earmuffs (See all Baby Banz products here).
Baby Banz are noise-cancelling headphone earmuffs for babies, toddlers and older children – BUT we also have special earmuffs for infants and newborns as well on this page.
They work so well that one customer said her baby slept thru ALL of 4th of July fireworks! Another said her son slept through an entire ROCK Concert – amazing!
Earplugs or Earmuffs for Babies?
Many parents like to take their young children and babies along with them to air shows, concerts, fireworks, Monster Jams, Nascar races, and many other loud events.
They know the most important thing to remember is to protect their child’s hearing and wonder if earplugs are better than earmuffs (headphones) – or vice-versa.
Ear plugs can damage young years so it’s best to get a pair of earmuffs.
Baby Banz earmuffs are made just like the ones you see the workers on an airport tarmac wear. And if they work to protect their hearing from the unbelievably loud noise from jets and planes, they are sure to work wonders for your baby/child as well.
Also, older children (toddlers on up) WANT to wear ear muffs like they see the airport workers or Nascar teams wearing and are more likely to keep them on – which is a HUGE plus!
How To Buy a GOOD Pair of Ear Muffs For Your Child
Naturally, you want to buy the best hearing protection headphones/earmuffs possible for your child, but do you know what to look for?
Here are some buying tips to help you out.
1. Check the NRR Rating.
The most important thing to look for when buying a pair of earmuffs for your child is the NRR Rating. NRR stands for Noise Reduction Rating and pretty much means the amount of noise (in decibels) that the device removes. These specifications come from the Environmental Protection Agency.
The higher the NRR Rating, the less noise your child is exposed to by wearing the ear protection.
You may think it’s best to buy ear protection with the highest possible NRR rating for your child, but that’s not really the case. If the NRR Rating is TOO high, your child may not be able to hear much at all that is going on around them and they will isolated…and not want to wear the ear protection.
Also, with older children, you do want them to still be able to hear YOU and have conversation as well.
In short, you don’t want to cancel out ALL sound – just the dangerous noise.
The recommended NRR Rating for children’s earmuffs (headphones) is in the range of 21 – 26.
This rating is enough to protect their hearing and still allow them to hear you.
Baby Banz earmuffs have a NRR Rating of 26.
2. Quality Ear Padding That Will “Seal” Around Your Child’s Ear.
If the earmuffs don’t fit properly, they won’t work properly either. Be sure you get age/size appropriate ear protection that will basically form a seal around the ear.
3. Quality Construction.
You don’t want any sharp edges on your child’s earmuffs. Nothing that might scratch or pull on their hair. The headband should be smooth and padded as well.
The earmuffs should stay in place comfortable and be neither too tight or too loose. Even if the earmuffs claim t fit “all sizes” because they are adjustable, be SURE they fit your child appropriately BEFORE the event when you will need them.
Noise Cancelling Headphones for Infants
Once a child gets to about 6-8 months, the hearing protection headphones listed above will most likely fit your child just fine.
But – what if your child is a newborn or an infant? What type of hearing protection headphone ear muffs are right for them?
Em’s 4 Bubs Infant Earmuffs are just perfect! And they sure come in some cute styles as well!
With a NRR Rating of 22, these noise cancelling headphones are specifically made for an infants head and ears. They use a soft head band to hold them in place as opposed to hard plastic. This is more comfortable for your baby and better for your baby’s soft head as well.
They are claimed to be the world’s smallest hearing protection earmuffs and are super light weight.
